Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Almașu Mare?
The best area to stay in Almașu Mare is within the village itself, as this is the central point for exploring the surrounding Apuseni Mountains and is where you'll find the most convenient accommodation options.

Almașu Mare is a small, traditional village, so 'areas' are less distinct than in a city. However, staying close to the main road that runs through the village will give you the easiest access to local amenities and the routes leading to hiking trails and other natural attractions. The village is located in a valley, offering views of the surrounding hills.

Couples looking for a quiet retreat will find Almașu Mare ideal. The village offers a peaceful setting, great for enjoying nature, taking leisurely walks, and experiencing traditional Romanian village life away from the hustle and bustle. The local guesthouses often provide home-cooked meals using fresh, local ingredients, adding to the authentic experience.

For travellers interested in outdoor activities and exploring the Apuseni Mountains, staying in Almașu Mare provides a convenient base. You're well-positioned for day trips to explore the nearby ancient Roman gold mines, hike through forests, or visit other small villages in the region.
When is the best time to go to Almașu Mare?
The best time to visit Almașu Mare is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) months.

During these periods, the weather is pleasantly mild, with comfortable temperatures ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the Apuseni Mountains and the surrounding area. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience when visiting local attractions like the Roșia Montană mining landscape or enjoying outdoor activities.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will appreciate the serene environment and the opportunity for scenic drives through the countryside without the summer rush. The changing colours of autumn foliage, in particular, create a picturesque backdrop for leisurely walks and photography.

Families travelling with children will also find these times suitable, as the cooler temperatures make outdoor exploration more enjoyable for everyone.
